Shaking juice vs stirring a mixed drink
By hilling · · 1 minute
Shake a sealed, still juice only if its label tells you to. Stir an open mixed drink, especially after sparkling water has been added. The two actions solve different problems.
A gentle shake can redistribute settled material in a bottle. Stirring combines ingredients in a glass without treating it like a sealed container. Never shake a closed bottle containing a carbonated drink; pressure and foam can make opening it messy or unsafe.
For a ginger spritz, mix the ginger base and any still juice first. Add ice if you want it, then pour in the sparkling water and give it a gentle stir. If you are serving several people, keep the fizzy part separate until each glass is nearly ready.
