How to describe a ginger drink without saying spicy

By hilling · · 1 minute

You can describe a ginger drink by its opening, texture, and finish. “Orange first, a little pulp, warm afterward” tells someone much more than “spicy.”

Try these pairs while tasting: sharp or rounded, light or full, dry-tasting or sweet-tasting, brief or lingering. These are personal impressions, so two people can use different words for the same bottle without either being wrong.

Avoid turning a flavor note into a medical claim. “Wakes up the glass” can describe a bright recipe; a promise about energy or health needs a different kind of evidence. When you share a recommendation with a friend, start with what they usually enjoy. Someone who likes tart lemonade needs a different description from someone who orders orange soda.
