One change at a time makes a better recipe
By hilling · · 1 minute
Change one ingredient at a time when you are adjusting a ginger drink. If you add orange, water, and sweetener together, you might like the result but have no idea how to repeat it.
Set out three small glasses. Keep the same base in each, then make one change: a teaspoon of water, a teaspoon of orange juice, or a few drops of lemon. Taste the original again between versions.
Write down the change before you forget it. Your note can be as simple as “two tablespoons base, one tablespoon water.” Once that adjustment works, try a second one in a fresh glass. This small-batch approach also wastes less than repeatedly correcting a whole pitcher. The best recipe is the one you can make twice.
