How to ask for useful flavor feedback

By hilling · · 1 minute

Ask a specific flavor question instead of “Do you like it?” You will learn more from “Would you want less ginger, more citrus, or no change?” than from a polite yes.

Give people a way to say the drink is not for them. If every answer sounds like a compliment, the question may be doing too much social work. Keep the tasting portion small and avoid explaining what they should notice before they try it.

Separate personal preference from a recipe fault. One person wanting more lemon does not mean everyone will. Write down the exact feedback, then look for patterns after several independent responses. Do not turn one friend's enthusiasm into a testimonial or a broad claim about what customers prefer.
