Planning tasting portions without overbuying
By hilling · · 1 minute
Choose a tasting portion before deciding how many bottles to buy. Small samples and full servings lead to very different quantities.
For example, eight people tasting one ounce each need eight ounces of a particular drink. Divide that total by the bottle volume, then round up to whole bottles. This is serving arithmetic, not a claim about how much any person should drink.
Account for people who may skip a sample, but do not pressure them to finish the planned quantity. Have water and clean cups available, and follow the drink's storage directions while serving. If you are comparing several flavors, smaller pours can make the event easier and reduce leftovers. Write the plan down before shopping so a good-looking pack size does not make the decision for you.
