Taking a refrigerated drink on a picnic

By hilling · · 1 minute

Take a refrigerated ginger drink in an insulated cooler with adequate ice or cold packs, and keep it cold until serving. A shaded picnic blanket is not a refrigerator.

FDA guidance limits time for foods requiring refrigeration outside cold storage to two hours, or one hour above 90°F. Plan around the weather and follow the drink's label; do not wait until the last sip to think about storage.

Pack the bottles upright and protect glass from knocks. Bring only the amount you expect to serve, with a small cup for each person if you are sharing. Keep plain water available too. If a bottle's handling history is uncertain, do not use a taste test as the deciding factor.
