Check serving size before comparing two bottles

By hilling · · 1 minute

Check the serving size and servings per container before comparing nutrition labels. One panel may describe the whole bottle while another describes only part of it.

Set the two labels side by side and write down the amount each panel covers. If you want an equal-volume comparison, calculate both on the same basis. Do not assume that “one serving” means the same quantity across brands.

This matters for price comparisons too. A 3-ounce bottle and a 2-ounce bottle are different amounts, even when they look similar in a photograph. After you compare the numbers, return to the practical question: how much do you want to drink? A larger format is not automatically a better fit for your routine.
